Providing Safe
Water for
Communities
Thanks to your support, we are providing life-saving clean water and essential health and hygiene training to hundreds of communities in nine countries.
Community Water
Unclean water traps communities in poverty
When a local water source is contaminated or destroyed in a natural disaster, it impacts an entire community. For women and children, the daily journey to walk to another water source contributes to over 250 million hours spent collecting water that risks disease with every sip. Constant sickness, poor crop yields, children and families robbed of an education and their dignity, leave communities trapped in an endless cycle of poverty.
However, Samaritan’s Purse and generous donors like you are responding in Jesus’ Name by providing community-wide water solutions that restore health, futures, and open doors for the Gospel to be shared.
Clean Water Saves Lives
Tailored clean water solutions for every community
Clean water uplifts families and empowers entire communities. Mothers can stay home to care for their children or open small businesses to earn additional income. Children stay healthy and can attend school regularly. Farmers use clean water for their crops and livestock, resulting in abundant harvests, improved nutrition, and reliable income for their families.
In each community where Samaritan’s Purse works, we implement clean water solutions tailored to the region’s needs and geography. These projects include:
- Borehole Drilling: Digging deep into the earth to access underground aquifers and provide a reliable source of clean water.
- Hand Pump Installation: Equipping boreholes with hand pumps make it easy for communities to draw water.
- Water Treatment Systems: Installing purification systems such as reverse osmosis units or chlorination facilities to treat contaminated water sources.
- Rainwater Harvesting: Setting up systems to collect and store rainwater, providing an alternative source during dry seasons.
Sharing Living Water
Wellsprings of Salvation in South Asia
Teenage Mayra* was exhausted. She was trying to finish her homework, but her eyelids felt so heavy. Drifting in and out of sleep, she remembered how burdensome the jug of water had felt as she carried it on her head earlier that day. Each kilometer between her South Asian* village and the distant stream had seemed longer than the last.
The thought of making the journey again tomorrow—only to gather more dirty water that would make her feel ill—was almost unbearable.
“Along with our village women, I was going approximately three kilometers to collect water, even though that water was not clean. We had no other option,” Mayra shared. “I was not getting time to go to school and also failed to study at home due to tiredness.”
Praise God that friends like you made it possible to drill a new well in Mayra’s village—at the local church.
“I can easily collect clean water,” Mayra said with gratitude. “I have the opportunity to regularly attend school on time and also study at home without having any problem.”
Together with village churches, our local partner has shared the Gospel with more than 16,700 people while drilling wells, teaching hygiene lessons, installing filters, and building latrines. Mayra is one of 126 new believers who responded to the Good News.
“I have learned that the power of the love of Jesus has influenced you to provide the well at our village so that everyone can happily use it,” she explained. “That divine truth has influenced me so much to love Jesus.”

Why Water Projects Matter
Join us in meeting physical and spiritual needs in Jesus’ Name
Community Water
Clean water uplifts entire families and empowers entire communities. Mothers can stay home to care for their children or open small businesses to earn additional income, children can attend school regularly, and farmers can support their households with healthier crops and livestock.
WASH in Action
Alongside infrastructure projects, Samaritan's Purse conducts hygiene education and water system maintenance training through community health agents—often members of local churches—so that families can enjoy abundant, clean water for years to come.
The Gospel in Action
Meeting the physical need for clean water opens the doors for deeper spiritual needs to be met. Wells, filters, hygiene lessons, and church-based water projects create strategic opportunities to demonstrate God’s love and share the eternal hope of the Gospel.
About Water Projects
Bring safe water to thirsty communities across the globe
Thanks to your support, we are bringing safe water and the “living water” (John 4:10) to thirsty communities across the globe. Every water access point constructed, hygiene lesson taught, or water filter installed is a tangible opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and share the eternal hope of the Gospel.
