DART – Emergency Field Hospital Build & Maintenance

Remote
Casual Contract
Last Modified: 7/2/26

Job Description

Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Are you a professional who thrives under pressure and has a heart for sharing the love of Christ with those who are hurting?

Samaritan’s Purse believes in being the first on the ground in order to serve and help those who have suffered through a catastrophic event by providing water, food, shelter and medical care while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Samaritan’s Purse is seeking medical operations professionals to serve on our Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART). The Samaritan’s Purse DART stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice whenever and wherever disaster strikes. The DART program is composed of readily available professionals trained to respond within a complex international environment. DART members must have a flexible schedule since deployments occur with little or no warning and have the drive and passion to work in the midst of devastation and tragedy. The locations and living conditions can be challenging and the workdays long and hard. We are searching for flexible people who can overcome daunting logistical challenges to bring help and hope to those who need it most.

Responsibilities

Emergency Field Hospital (EFH) Build and Maintenance will work to ensure all required structures and equipment are functioning to support the Emergency Field Hospital and staff.

Qualifications

  1. Qualified applicants should be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith.
  2. Fluency in both written and spoken English is required; proficiency in other languages is an asset.
  3. 1-2 years’ professional experience in international context or disaster response management in developing countries is highly desirable.
  4. Proven maintenance experience.
  5. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  6. Related degree from a technical college or certification required.
  7. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  8. Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
  9. Ability to understand construction drawings, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
  10. Experience performing routine maintenance.
  11. Strong organizational and follow up skills.
  12. Strong attention to detail.
  13. Professional presentation and attitude.
  14. Ability to maintain focus while working individually.
  15. Strong time management skills.
  16. Available on short notice for immediate 4 week deployment at least once every 2 years.
  17. Able to serve within a very fast-paced environment, 7 days/week for extended hours while on deployment.
  18. Willingness to work in unstable, insecure areas.
  19. Flexible and able to manage stress.
  20. Able to work as a member of a team, particularly cross-culturally with a variety of health and non-health authorities.
  21. Teaching experience desirable, but not required.
  22. Willingness to engage in daily prayer ministry with the DART team and with the patients we serve.
  23. Maintains an evangelical heart and passion for others to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  24. Valid passport with no travel restrictions.
  25. Note: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

These are not volunteer opportunities; a daily stipend, travel, lodging, meals and emergency travel insurance are covered by the organization.

Risk Acknowledgement:

“At Samaritan’s Purse Canada (the “Organization”) the nature of our work may from time to time introduce demands that may impact the physical, spiritual, and psychological disposition of our team members. While the Organization strives to mitigate risk for our team members, some roles, particularly those involving emergency response, may expose individuals to real physical dangers or threats of danger and a range of challenging circumstances. Recognizing these realities and building on our learning from over 50 years of ministry, the organization works to provide a supportive environment, focused on caring for the health and well-being of our people.”
