As catastrophic flooding and landslides put communities underwater and force thousands from their homes, a Samaritan’s Purse team is on its way to help British Columbia families.
A state of provincial emergency has been declared and nearly 20,000 people have been displaced. Samaritan’s Purse Canada is deploying staff, volunteers and two of our specially-equipped disaster relief units (DRU) to Abbotsford and Merritt to assist homeowners in need.
Our focus is helping with the restoration of homes and properties at no cost to allow families to safely return home following a disaster.
Join as we share the love of Jesus by offering tangible help to residents. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as debris removal, mudding-out basements, tearing-out drywall, and sanitization.
Volunteers will receive an on-site orientation and will serve with an experienced site leadership team. Personal protective equipment including Tyvek suits and N95 masks will be provided and must be worn at all times on the worksite.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and youth ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers need to provide their own transportation to and from Abbotsford or Merritt, but once on site, meals will be provided. Volunteer shifts are available Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Please note: we do not work on Sundays.
We are offering overnight accommodations for volunteers at our location in Abbotsford only.
If you would like to coordinate a group of volunteers to serve together, please contact us at email@example.com. Samaritan’s Purse may be able to assist with travel coordination.
