Samaritan’s Purse is helping to make a difference by providing medical care for the suffering.
February, 2014—Dana’s mom and dad were thrilled when their baby girl entered the world; she was the first child born to the impoverished farming couple who live in Cambodia’s Kratie Province.
But her birth didn’t go smoothly. Complications during her home-delivery were followed by an illness that further afflicted Dana’s fragile body.
It wasn’t until our local maternal child health staff met Dana at four years old that she was diagnosed with birth asphyxia—permanent brain damage due to a lack of oxygen during delivery.
Our staff referred her to a hospital where she was not only diagnosed, but also treated for severe malnutrition. Dana weighed a mere 10 pounds—a quarter of the weight of a healthy four-year-old. Donations from Canadians like you provided Dana’s parents with ongoing therapeutic food to help their daughter gain weight and become healthy enough to enroll in a rehabilitation program at the hospital.
Though discouraged at their daughter’s diagnosis, Dana’s parents are grateful for the continued encouragement from Samaritan’s Purse. Loving care from our staff also earned them the opportunity to share the Gospel with the family.
“I’m so happy to hear about God,” said Dana’s mom. “I can have hope when I know that God is with me. I thank God for blessing my daughter.”
Many ill and malnourished children in this region of Cambodia are indeed blessed by the Lord through our maternal child health project; please consider a financial gift to change lives through medical help. Proverbs 13 says “a trustworthy envoy brings healing.” Like in Cambodia, the Good Samaritans we work with across the globe are bringing help, hope, and healing in Jesus’ name to those who need it most.
