50 Years of Ministry

Moved by the plight of children on a Korean island, missionary statesman Bob Pierce prayed, “Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God.” This led him to found Samaritan’s Purse in 1970 to help meet needs in the Name of Jesus Christ. After Pierce died of leukemia in 1978, Franklin Graham was elected president of Samaritan’s Purse. Over the past 50 years, the organization has grown to meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love—all while serving the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
