Samaritan’s Purse is helping to create healthy homes in Kenya and in over 25 other countries by providing water filters for families who don’t have access to clean drinking water.
Paul’s family in Kenya changed the day they received a household BioSand Water Filter. Finally, they could clean the water from their only source—a nearby stream full of dangerous bacteria and parasites.
They went from always struggling with sickness, to being healthy and free of the weakness and potentially deadly diarrhea that used to plague everything they did. Paul and his wife had the strength to work, and their children stopped missing school. “Our health is improving every day,” he said. “That is our great joy.”
Reaching Others
With the support of Samaritan’s Purse teams, Paul and his family also learned to make their home a healthy one. They received training on proper hygiene and sanitation—which are so crucial to ward off infectious diseases—and help to set up handwashing stations and a latrine around their home.
Being a pastor, Paul did not want to keep the blessing to himself: “The Bible says, ‘Be an example of good things.’” Paul became a Healthy Homes ambassador with Samaritan’s Purse. He goes out to his neighbors and across his region to share what he and his family received. As he does, Paul proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ, who offers Living Water. “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again” (John 4:14, ESV).
Providing Safe Water During COVID
When COVID-19 began spreading across the world, Paul was ready to help protect his country. In this era of a pandemic, safe water, hygiene, and sanitation are as critical as ever. Paul has been at the forefront as Samaritan’s Purse has ramped up our response efforts in Kenya and around the world. He is helping distribute handwashing stations with soap, provide safe water for drinking, and educate communities on physical distancing to keep them safe.
God is working through Paul to end thirst and illness and guard the lives of thousands in Jesus’ Name. He can do the same through you as you pray and give gifts of safe water and hygiene. It’s as critical as ever.
