A shoebox recipient in Cambodia grows in his relationship with Jesus.
It has been a privilege to work alongside the Operation Christmas Child ministry for five years. Through Operation Christmas Child I have seen the lives of kids and their families changed.
I want to share this story about 14-year-old Sophea who joined The Greatest Journey class after he received a shoebox. He never had a gift before. When he opened the box, he saw the blessing and said, “Mom and Dad, I got books, shoes, rulers, pens, and crayons. I can continue my studies in school!”
He did not hesitate to attend The Greatest Journey. Now, he’s like a new person.
“I saw a new world and realized I was called by God to serve and to serve my friends,” Sophea told me.
Sophea has become a Sunday School teacher assistant. He’s growing in his relationship with God and encouraging friends to attend The Greatest Journey.
I am thankful that Operation Christmas Child has helped our country. Cambodia suffered a long time—almost 31 years. We passed through a civil war, when 2.5 million people were killed.
We also suffered a long time under the Khmer Rouge. These events lowered morale and made access to education difficult.
Many people are poor in Cambodia, and it’s especially hard to break the poverty cycle.
Please pray for Cambodia. I hope and believe that Operation Christmas Child is the best opportunity for a better generation, and an opportunity to transform our society and our country.
