Samaritan’s Purse Canada (SPC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced International Disaster Response (IDR) Director to lead our vital work in bringing hope and relief to those affected by crisis around the world!
Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
As the IDR Director, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all of SPC’s international disaster response efforts. You will be responsible for leading a dedicated team, fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the effective delivery of aid to those in need, all while upholding our mission and values. As an integral member of the Programs & Projects Department, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in the daily prayer ministry.
The successful candidate will fulfill a fulltime maternity leave contract position (immediate start to May 2027) in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, and 15 vacation days per year to start.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Casts vision and leads the SPC International Disaster Response Unit, setting goals for national DART recruitment and engagement, and ensuring alignment with SPC’s overall mission.
- Leads and directs all SPC international disaster response activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and maintaining our Internal Plan for International Disaster Response.
- Provides direction and supervision to the IDRU team, including Managers, Specialists, and Coordinators, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders including International Headquarters (IHQ), Global Affairs Canada, airport authorities, and other relevant organizations.
- Provides oversight of SPC international disaster response resources, including pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and non-food items.
- Directs SPC flight and cargo operations.
- Represents and advocates for SPC within IHQ, contributing to greater connectivity and maximizing the impact of our global ministry.
- Identifies and cultivates collaborative partnerships, and optimizes existing relationships, to build capacity for Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s international disaster response efforts – encompassing staff, the DART roster, and necessary resources.
- Develops and maintains expertise in topics related to emergency response, relief, development, and applied theology.
- Travels to assess needs, provide oversight, and monitor ministry project activities
Qualifications:
- Committed to Christian values and precepts, in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith and Conduct.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, MBA, or a related field is required.
- 5+ years of experience in a Project Management role, ideally with a Christian international relief organization.
- 5+ years of experience in disaster response, ideally with a Christian international relief organization.
- Proven ability to manage and develop a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to take initiative and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 6 weeks per year).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid passport, Emergency First Aid certification, and Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.
