Canadian Disaster Relief Assistant Manager

Do you have a heart for serving others and a passion for disaster relief? Are you a highly organized and compassionate leader who thrives in a dynamic environment? Samaritan’s Purse Canada (SPC) is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for a dedicated Canadian Disaster Relief (CDR) Assistant Manager to join our team!

Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

As the CDR Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the oversight of our Canadian Disaster Relief program. You will be instrumental in ensuring our rapid response capabilities are maintained, our Site Leadership Team (SLT) is well-equipped and cared for, and we are effectively building relationships with key stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine your organizational skills with your compassionate heart, directly impacting the lives of those affected by disaster in Canada. As an integral member of the Canadian Ministry Projects department, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through participation in the daily prayer ministry.

The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time permanent position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, RRSP contributions after one year of employment, and 15 vacation days per year to start.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Site Leadership Team (SLT) – from recruitment and training to scheduling and ongoing support – ensuring a highly effective and compassionate team is ready to respond.
  • Overseeing and supporting the ongoing training and professional development of the SLT, including implementing required training opportunities and conducting post-deployment after-action reviews.
  • Ensuring the SLT is prepared for rapid response by overseeing scheduling, logistics, communication during deployments, and maintaining accurate records for all team members (including background checks, driver abstracts, and training records).
  • Providing direct supervision and oversight to Volunteer SLT Members.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including Provincial Emergency Management, Municipal Committees, and local churches.
  • Overseeing record management, compliance, and inventory levels, ensuring we are prepared and equipped for rapid response.
  • Travelling to disaster relief project locations as deemed necessary by the CDR Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants should be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Disaster Management, Volunteer Management) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a relevant field such as volunteer relations, management, or disaster response. Greater consideration will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor others.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with limited time constraints.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, within a team environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed for disaster response activities.
