PEI Helps – Bahamian Relief Campaign

A fundraising dinner and auction to raise funds for those in need in the Bahamas as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian.

After Hurricane Dorian left a disastrous trail through the Bahamas, it went north to Atlantic Canada. In Prince Edward Island, strong winds tore off roofs, broke windows, flattened fences, and toppled massive, century-old trees. They sometimes fell on homes, cars, and other property.

Dorian’s PEI victims tried to cope with the damage while dealing with trauma caused by the sound and power of ferocious winds.

Some of PEI’s hardest-hit communities included Summerside, Kensington, and Cavendish.

“We invited Samaritan’s Purse into the area to assist our people, and we’re thankful they are here,” said Rowan Caseley, Kensington’s mayor.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada responded in PEI by serving almost 140 homeowners with tarping roofs, cutting tree limbs, stacking timber, removing debris, and providing other practical aid.

Now PEI residents are coming together for the PEI Helps – Bahamian Relief Campaign.

This dinner and auction will raise funds for those in need in the Bahamas as a result of the hurricane’s devastation. Proceeds will be designated to Samaritan’s Purse Canada’s Hurricane Relief Fund.

To date, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered almost 800,000 pounds of emergency relief supplies, provided over 1.1 million litres of clean water, covered/repaired more than 400 house and community rooftops, and provided medical care to nearly 7,750 patients in the Bahamas.

Today almost 600 Bahamians still live in emergency shelters, with an additional 346 Bahamians still missing.

Samaritan’s Purse has opened an office in the Bahamas that will help residents with the recovery and reconstruction of severely damaged areas.
