Sanda’s Story
Rescue from the Rubble
In Myanmar, one of the strongest earthquakes in the country’s history shook Sanda’s* house to pieces. A support beam shielded Sanda from the worst of the collapse, but her husband died in the rubble.
Sanda’s leg was pinned for eight hours before she was rescued, and by then, her leg was deeply wounded. She needed surgery—but the local medical system was overwhelmed. Samaritan’s Purse responded immediately to the earthquake in Myanmar by sending an Emergency Field Hospital.
Your gift brings urgent medical care to those who need it most.

The Need
A Lifeline Amidst the Devastation
War and natural disasters can often overwhelm or destroy healthcare systems. An Emergency Field Hospital and other relief supplies like food, water, and shelter become lifelines when everything else is gone.
In Myanmar, God worked through someone like you to send relief to Sanda when she needed it most. A 60-bed Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital, deployed from Canada, was fully functional within hours of arrival. Our doctors and nurses performed Sanda’s operation, along with over 300 others. “I thank God for each and every one of you,” she said as our staff prayed with her. Over the following days, Samaritan’s Purse medical staff cared for Sanda as she healed physically and emotionally and shared the love of Christ with her through their care.
“The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” — Psalm 9:9, ESV

The Solution
Inside an Emergency Field Hospital
A Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital and medical teams can be flown worldwide to operate in a disaster zone within hours. One of these specialized facilities is positioned in our Calgary, Alberta, ministry center, ready to be airlifted immediately, just as it was for Myanmar. The hospital can be tailored to meet the needs of a response with modules that include:
- Emergency Rooms
- Operating Rooms
- Intensive Care Units
- A Pharmacy
Since 2016, Canadian Disaster Assistance Response Team members have provided life-saving medical care more than twenty times, including in Ukraine, Haiti, Grenada, Italy, and Mozambique. Our teams also work to relieve suffering by delivering emergency food, deploying community water treatment systems, and constructing shelters.
“We are here to save lives, to reduce suffering, and to share hope—the hope of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,” said Dr. Nottebrock, a Canadian emergency and trauma physician with Samaritan’s Purse, who worked in the Myanmar field hospital.
