Finance Manager

Are you a detail-oriented finance professional with a passion for stewardship and financial integrity? Do you desire to use your accounting expertise to support a global ministry that makes a tangible difference in the lives of others? Samaritan’s Purse Canada (SPC) is seeking a dedicated Finance Manager to join our Finance team!

Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.  Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

As our Finance Manager, you will play a vital role in overseeing and managing key daily, monthly, and annual accounting activities to ensure the integrity of our financial statements. As an integral member of the team, this role will help SPC carry out its mission and objectives through providing essential financial oversight, training managers on financial processes, and participating in the daily prayer ministry.

The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time 1-year contract position in the Calgary office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability, RRSP contributions after one year of employment, and 15 vacation days per year to start.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervises, trains, and guides the Finance team to professionally handle responsibilities, including donations postings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general finance administration.
  • Reviews and distributes monthly financial statements and other monthly/quarterly financial reports.
  • Leads the preparation of the annual corporate budget document by liaising with the Director of Finance on budget inputs and parameters.
  • Ensures timely monthly/quarterly accounts receivable billings to SP US and BGEAC are completed and sent.
  • Assists program managers with budget development, ensuring data integrity and consistency of methodology across all ministry units.
  • Ensures the timely closing of year-end accounts and prepares necessary schedules and reports for external audits.
  • Provides financial insights and advice to the senior management team to ensure organizational resources are effectively used to bring the Gospel to people around the world.
  • Partners with key departments in the Awards Management process to ensure financial resources are managed well to carry out the organization’s mission.
  • Trains and equips managers and directors on financial processes/procedures, controls and reports and developing long-term business plans
  • Participates in the Risk Management process by performing elevated financial reviews of high-risk award activity.


Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants should be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience within a charitable organization, with specific experience in fund accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and administration is preferred.
  • Possession of a CPA designation is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in accounting methods, internal control practices, and financial systems.
  • Familiarity with government requirements and regulations for charities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and equip others.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with a servant-leadership mindset and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
