In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, significant wind and storm surge has caused severe damage throughout Atlantic Canada. Communities throughout the region have experienced power outages, downed trees and localized flooding. Samaritan’s Purse Canada is deploying staff, volunteers and one of our specially-equipped disaster relief units (DRU) to assist homeowners in need.
Sign up to serve your neighbors affected by Hurricane Dorian. Join us as we share the love of Jesus by offering tangible help to residents in their time of need. You can help with things such as debris removal, chainsaw work, tarping, and mud-outs.
All registered volunteers will receive free orientation and training, and are paired with experienced leaders. Volunteers are provided with personal protective equipment and tools to assist homeowners with tasks such as clean up and sanitization. Our focus is helping with the restoration of homes and properties at no cost to allow families to safely return home following a disaster. To learn more about how volunteers serve, please visit our Canadian Disaster Relief Volunteer page.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years or older, and youth ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers are required to get themselves to the host church site, but once on site, volunteers will be provided meals and accommodations (if requested). Worksites generally operate Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please note: All overnight volunteers are required to have a criminal background check. Upon acceptance to serve, we will send you an invitation to complete a background check online. This process takes a minimum of 24 hours to process. If you already have a background check (completed within the past 2 years), you may send us a copy of it instead.
Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1973, Samaritan's Purse Canada has helped victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
We share God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. We ask our volunteers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with our purpose as they serve with us. Samaritan’s Purse helps people regardless of religion, race, gender, or socio-economic standing. We partner with local churches, just as the Good Samaritan partnered with the innkeeper. For more information on the foundation of our faith, please see our Statement of Faith.
