Are you excited about organic food, natural farming, and agricultural practices in the developing world? Do you enjoy backyard gardening, or have your own chicken coop? Have you recently supported your local farmer’s market or community co-op and delight in meeting the farmers that grow your food?
As the Lord keeps and sustains us, so we must keep and sustain our Lord’s creation. – Genesis 2:15
The Bible calls Christians to care for creation; as God keeps his people, so should God’s people keep his creation.
You’re invited to join Samaritan’s Purse Canada as we explore the topic of creation care and food security together in the Philippines next January! The team will work with our local ministry partner – The SEED Project (Something to Eat Every Day) – on their demonstration farms to empower isolated rural families and to increase food security. Team members will also have the opportunity to be involved at a special agriculture conference with a focus on training, equipping, and networking to develop healthy communities across Asia.
The SEED Project has three main objectives: to see household food security improved, agricultural livelihoods restored, and the gospel advanced. They work with small-scale farmers to become self–sufficient in teaching agriculture practices that require no outside resources. Crops, fruits and vegetables are grown in balance with small scale livestock, poultry and fish enterprises in such a way as to bring a synergy into the overall operation and to spread harvest throughout the entire year. Food grown on SEED farms also provides a nutritious and reliable source of food for local orphanages.
