Samaritan’s Purse Canada is looking for an International Disaster Response (IDR) Director to join our Programs and Projects (P&PD) team, who will be responsible for leading the International Disaster Response team, and managing Samaritan’s Purse Canada international disaster response efforts, ensuring excellence and alignment with the organization’s mission and purposes. The Director will collaborate closely with internal and international counterparts, mobilize medical & non-medical volunteers and staff, and oversee the acquisition and logistics of disaster-related supplies. By fostering emergency preparedness and maintaining proactive engagement, the IDR Director will be a significant contributor to Samaritan’s Purse Canada global impact. As an integral member of the Programs and Project department, this role will help Samaritan’s Purse Canada carry out its mission and objectives through participation in daily chapel and prayer ministry. The successful candidate will fulfill a full-time permanent position in the Calgary head office. This position includes benefits of life insurance, medical/dental and short-term/long-term disability), free parking, RRSP contributions (after 1 year of employment) and 15 days of vacation per year.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leads and directs all Samaritan’s Purse Canada disaster response staff, activities, projects, supplies, and mobilization of medical and non-medical volunteers and international field staff
- Collaborates with Projects staff, other departments, Affiliate Offices, and IHQ counterparts to optimize Samaritan’s Purse Canada efforts and contribute to integrated global efforts
- Mobilizes Canadian specialists, including Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) members on the roster
- Travels to assess needs, provide oversight, and monitor ministry project activities and serves in international disaster response roles as available and assigned
- Engages staff and partners with Communications, providing relevant field information
- Develops capacity for all Samaritan’s Purse Canada disaster response activity, DART roster, projects, supplies, and mobilization of volunteers and field staff
- Initiates After Action Reviews for improved response and readiness
- Strategically contributes to Samaritan’s Purse global ministry work for effective and efficient disaster response capacity
- Ensures Samaritan’s Purse Canada staff training and capacity-building for Incident Management Team (IMT) engagement
- Oversees response-related award management and contracts following Samaritan’s Purse Canada guidelines and policy
- Develops and manages budgets for response-related project activities and ongoing operations
Qualifications:
- Qualified applicants should be committed to Christian values and precepts and be in agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, MBA or a degree in a related field required
- Minimum 5 years’ international experience working in disaster response or development environment interacting with humanitarian agencies and or specialized sectors
- 5+ years of experience in a Project Management role
- 5+ years of experience in Disaster Response capacity
- Above average communication and interpersonal skills, focused on training, peacemaking, kindness, leadership, and duty of care
- Strong leadership skills
- Proven ability to manage and lead a team in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
- Ability to take initiative and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to manage dynamic project activities and personnel development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Willing to travel internationally
