Keren Massey leaves for Niger with Samaritan’s Purse

Written by Grant Alford

Keren Massey considers herself a resident of Three Hills, but confesses that in the past five years she has probably not been home for more than a total of six months.

Keren is the Regional Program Development Officer for West Africa for Samaritan’s Purse. Keren departed February 28, to go to Niger which is the base location for the West African operations. From there it is likely that she will be returning to Liberia where the Ebola outbreak is still an issue. Samaritan’s Purse partners with local pastors and churches and with Community Based Organizations (CBO). It is determined that the work will continue in Liberia until there are zero cases of Ebola to deal with.

Miss Massey, in her capacity as Program Development Officer is involved in the larger picture of Samaritan’s Purse a multi-faceted ministry of helping in agriculture, food security and health, water and sanitation, and protection of the vulnerable. Keren wanted to emphasize her appreciation to all those who have been praying for the team that is “on the ground” and for the financial support to the mission. She also emphasized that while the news coverage may have lessened, the danger is not over. As to her own danger or that of the other workers, Keren stated that it is not greater than it is for relief workers in any place at this time.

Keren was raised in Three Hills and is a graduate of Prairie High School. She also received her Education degree and LPN training from Prairie Bible College. She received her Masters degree in Public Health in Developing Countries in London, England. She has worked in public health in Mozambique, South Sudan, Uganda and Liberia.
