Dr. Ron Monson, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, and his wife, Maureen Monson, a retired teacher, are two of a kind.
They love to care for the needy, put smiles on the faces of people, and make the world a better place.
Known in the community as Grandpa and Grandma Monson, this couple will go to any length to bless lives, both in their community and overseas.
At the international level, the Monsons have travelled to Africa with Samaritan’s Purse World Medical Mission to work in a hospital called AIC-CURE, located in Kijabe, Kenya, a town that sits on the edge of the Rift Valley which extends from East Africa to Southern Turkey and runs through the Middle East between Jordan and Israel.
While Dr. Monson works as pediatric orthopedic surgeon training and teaching on site, Maureen helps with logistics at the AIC-CURE Hospital. Among the medical conditions taken care of at the hospital are significant bone and joint deformities, snake bites, tuberculosis, burn scars requiring skin grafts and other conditions requiring corrective surgery.
Around Fort Richmond and its environs, Grandpa and Grandma Monson assist students, new immigrants, refugees, and needy families with household supplies, furniture and fittings and children’s toys.
One unique thing about this couple is that they prefer to give anonymously. They are blessed with wonderful biological children, and dozens of people who look up to them because of their love and compassion for all and sundry.
