Back-to-back earthquakes rocked Venezuela within a minute of each other on June 24. Both tremors measured over 7.0 in magnitude, the strongest to hit in many decades. Aftershocks continue. More than 160 people are confirmed dead, with death toll estimates soaring into the thousands. Reports from some areas have not come in yet.
Samaritan’s Purse is responding in Jesus’ Name. We are sending a Disaster Assistance Response Team, which will include some staff members from our Colombia country office. We will be assisting with medical, water, sanitation, and hygiene needs, among others.
“Two powerful back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela Wednesday evening, collapsing buildings in the capital of Caracas,” said Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan’s Purse, via Facebook. “Pray for rescue and recovery operations, first responders, and all who are injured or grieving lost loved ones.”
Please continue to pray for the people of Venezuela, especially around hard-hit Caracas and La Guaira. Pray for our response team and for their boldness while serving as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Samaritan’s Purse is working to alleviate the physical suffering of the Venezuelan people after two massive earthquakes hit on June 24. We will be providing relief in a variety of ways, including through medical care and clean water. As we minister, we are pointing people, young and old, to the eternal hope found only in Jesus Christ.
