Rushing Relief Supplies to Flooded Southern Ukraine

The Samaritan’s Purse DC-8 departed in the early hours of June 9 from Greensboro, North Carolina, carrying more than 40,000 pounds of relief supplies destined for flooded communities in southern Ukraine.

We are working through local partners to provide families with water filters, hygiene kits, blankets, solar lights, shelter material, and other critical aid. The DC-8 is scheduled to land in Poland where awaiting trucks will transport relief supplies across the border into Ukraine’s Kherson region.

“As the war in Ukraine continues to bring suffering, destruction and death, my heart breaks for the families who are caught in this crisis,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham . “And now thousands of families are dealing with the disaster of this severe flooding. We are sending these life-saving supplies in Jesus’ Name and want to remind the people of Ukraine that they have not been forgotten by God. Please pray for an end to this war and for our staff and partners who are working around the clock to minister to those affected by the recent floods.”

Tens of thousands of families were driven from their homes, and more are still evacuating, after the catastrophic collapse of the Nova Kakhovka Dam overwhelmed communities with the rushing reservoir waters of the Dnipro River.

This has further compounded problems for a country already in crisis, even in surprising ways, such as the unforeseen threat of waterborne landmines washing into neighborhoods. Our partners and staff are assisting with water rescues of stranded families and distributing available supplies, such as water, food, and blankets.

Samaritan’s Purse has been working to assist flooded communities since June 6, the day the dam collapsed, mobilizing partners and local churches to serve people in desperate need. Our Ukraine-based staff, serving communities as part of our ongoing relief response since the war in Ukraine began, are also working tirelessly to assist in this new layer of crisis.

Since the first day of the war in February of 2022, Samaritan’s Purse has been working to care for families impacted by violence, serving millions of people with critical aid. We have distributed more than 173 million pounds of food, produced 15 million gallons of clean water, and treated more than 23,000 patients throughout Ukraine.

Please pray for these families in the Kherson region, for our partners assisting them, and that God would bring peace to this war-torn country.
