When a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Indonesia on Feb. 6, it killed more than 40 people and injured hundreds more. The quake also devastated Hijra’s village, Sibalene, and many others.
“I was very scared during the earthquake,” said the 29-year-old mother and homemaker.
“The shocks were so strong, my house walls were broken and my family had to run away and leave the house.”
With their house damaged, Hijra’s family were forced to live in a government-provided tent. They were desperate to get food and sanitation supplies just to care for their most basic needs.

That’s where people like you came to their rescue. Canadian prayers and donations to Samaritan’s Purse made it possible to provide Hijra’s family, and many others, with emergency food and hygiene supplies in Jesus’ Name.
“I really appreciate it that you answered our needs,” said Hijra gratefully. “I hope we are able to cope and return to our home soon.”
Many more hurting Indonesians, who lost everything in the earthquake, need help. They also need the hope that only comes through faith in Jesus Christ, “the Word [who] became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14, ESV).
