Helping war-afflicted families in the DRC grow food

Years of civil war and political violence have made life an exhausting struggle for Katho Rwanza and her family in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Since the birth of her five children, Katho and her husband, Tabho, have spent most of their time trying to recover from repeated raids by rebels.

“We have been plundered several times,” she said, noting the family’s livestock, household utensils, fields, crops, tools, and more have been destroyed or taken away.

“It’s as though we have no right to life, especially since we are the farmers and our life depends on what we produce.”

Still, Katho is thankful to God that they are still alive. With the support of Canadian donations, Samaritan’s Purse has been able to help Katho and Tabho recover by providing them with seeds, tools, and training to enable them to plant, harvest, and sell their crops.

Our goal is to help families feed themselves, rather than to rely on emergency food distributions. Any surplus food the families produce can also be sold to provide income for clothing, medicine, and other household necessities.

“We have found hope for our lives again through Samaritan’s Purse, because of how you came to meet our needs,” Katho said gratefully.

“All that we lost, we have been able to recover in less time. I was able to plant 20 kilograms of beans in my field and Samaritan’s Purse trained me and did follow-up visits. God bless you.”

Thousands more families in  impoverished countries need your help. Through your prayers and donations, you can save lives and give us opportunities to tell them the Good News of Jesus Christ.
