Samaritan’s Purse Canada helping Australia’s flood victims

A five-member team of trained volunteers from Canada has joined in the clean-up effort in Australia after massive floods forced more than 1,100 residents from their homes in Townsville.

“It’s a one-in-100-year event,” said Annastacia Palaszczuk, premier of Australia’s Queensland state, in describing the flood damage that has occurred. Water levels have risen so high that government officials were forced to open the gates of Townsville’s Ross River Dam, which has led to even more flooding in Townsville and surrounding suburbs.

Emergency services personnel have received more than 1,000 calls so far for assistance, and more than 1,100 residents are now being cared for in evacuation centers. Samaritan’s Purse has already helped 130 homeowners with the help of 107 volunteers.

There is nothing like when a homeowner grasps onto you for a hug, and doesn’t want to let go!

Please join us in praying that our teams will shine the light of Christ into the lives of flood victims in Townsville.
