God using Samaritan’s Purse water filters to bring young Cambodians to faith in Christ

In rural Cambodia, many schools don’t have what we in Canada take for granted: safe drinking water. But financial support from Canadians like you is changing that, and providing opportunities for Samaritan’s Purse to bring the Gospel to children and teachers who have never heard of Jesus Christ.

In Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province, one of our employees, Tang, worked with a school to install a Samaritan Filter. These filters, created by Samaritan’s Purse and based on Canadian BioSand filter technology, provide safe water for up to 300 students and staff.

When we install these filters, we also provide health and hygiene training to ensure students and staff receive the maximum health benefits from finally having access to clean water. We also, when allowed, introduce students and staff to the Living Water offered by Jesus Christ.

As Tang integrated the Gospel into his health and hygiene training, the students and staff wanted to know more about Christ, who said “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38, ESV).

So, even though he confessed to having no experience in forming small groups for children interested in learning more about Christianity, Tang said: “This year I was able to form a group with the support of the Samaritan’s Purse ministry team and local church partners.”

Membership in the group is strictly voluntary. It meets twice each month and usually involves students from several classes at the school. As Tang has mentored his Bible study group, God has worked powerfully through him to bring more than 60 students so far to faith in His Son. Praise God!

Recently, Tang handed the group to one of our church partners so church leaders can help these new believers continue to grow in their faith.

Samaritan’s Purse is using this approach to provide for Cambodian students’ physical and spiritual needs. At the same time, we are building up local churches so they become important and respected beacons of hope in a country where less than two percent of residents are Christians.

You can be part of this transformative movement through your donations and prayers. The need is great, so please join us.
