Carolyn Jones makes her living as a public health nurse, but feels her true calling is serving God as a year-round Operation Christmas Child Connect volunteer.
“I feel this work for God is truly my job,” said the Orillia, ON resident, who has been part of her local Operation Child volunteer team for 10 years.
Carolyn, who started packing shoeboxes for children in need in 1997, serves as an area coordinator. This means she has the calling and privilege of leading and shepherding other volunteers—often including those responsible for logistics, church relations, community relations, prayer mobilization, and media relations—in their service and faith walk.
“I’m kind of like the umbrella for the team,” she said. “I pray for my volunteers and facilitate for them. I’ve had to learn to delegate, which is hard, but I’m now able to guide and encourage the team members and help them grow in their strengths.”
Carolyn appreciates how her regional manager—one of eight across Canada— “challenges, stretches and encourages me to grow.”
She also enjoys watching people join her team and then realize God is their ultimate boss and He’s interested in deepening their relationship with Him. “It’s a beautiful thing for me,” Carolyn said.
Her advice for any supporter of Operation Christmas Child who’s thinking about becoming a volunteer?
“When they go that next step to commit as a Connect volunteer, they open themselves up to grow. They can’t help but grow when they become a Connect volunteer. If you want to go on a true adventure with God, then jump in and learn. You’ll always be supported and encouraged.”
