Save lives by giving families safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene training

A Struggle To Live

Life in Cambodia’s rural, remote villages is often about day-to-day survival. Drought can leave hard-working farmers struggling to provide food for their families. Jobs are scarce and finding work can mean taking the risk of crossing an international border and working for minimal income.

Even the most basic needs like clean water are hard to come by for impoverished families.

Dirty water is the cause of millions of deaths worldwide each year due to water-borne diseases.

Samaritan’s Purse is working in Cambodia to offer clean water access and to promote safe hygiene practices. We are providing household filters, wells, water tanks, and latrines.

All of these efforts are helping to reduce the spread of waterborne disease and to prevent sickness such as diarrhea. And as we work, our staff are sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and seeing beneficiaries come to faith in the Savior.

Give Safe Water

Living Water

We’re also making clean water available through household water filters, which we provided to Kuon’s family. A filter completely changed their lives.

Before Samaritan’s Purse came to their community, Kuon’s family boiled their water, but it was still not clean enough to drink. Kuon developed kidney stones that required surgery, her husband struggled with intestinal pain, and both of her children experienced diarrhea.

“The health of our family is better,” Kuon said after our team provided her a water filter and taught her about proper hygiene. “I thank Samaritan’s Purse for all the support.”

Kuon now advocates good hygiene and clean water in her community, encouraging people to continue using the water filters we provided in order to stay healthy.

More life-changing than her physical health is Kuon’s spiritual birth. She, like most everyone in the village, was Buddhist. But when Samaritan’s Purse staff shared the Gospel with them, Kuon committed her life to Jesus Christ.

“Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” –Isaiah 12:3

“I accepted Jesus inside my heart,” Kuon said. “Before, I felt afraid and worried. Now, I know God loves me.”

Kuon’s husband and their teenage daughter also prayed to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
