Disaster Relief Unit
Inside the Disaster Relief Unit
The Disaster Relief Unit is a tractor/trailer unit designed to allow Samaritan’s
Purse - Canada to immediately respond to disasters in North America. The trailer
has a self-contained office and communications equipment, and other supplies. The unit is also stocked
with necessary tools and equipment, including generators, water pumps, chainsaws, wheel barrows, and safety gear for the volunteer Relief Teams who carry out the
clean-up efforts. The unit also travels with a Bobcat and support vehicles.
The Disaster Relief Unit and Samaritan’s Purse Relief Teams are ready to respond
when the need arises, arriving as fast as possible to set up a base for Samaritan’s
Purse relief efforts in the affected area.
Where We Respond
When a natural disaster strikes, the people affected – whether they live overseas
or in North America – are in desperate need of the resources and assistance Samaritan’s
Purse offers. Our first focus is helping those who are elderly, disabled, or who
are unable to manage clean-up on their own.
This Disaster Relief Unit has responded to multiple natural disasters, most recently
to extensive flooding in New York state, and the devastation caused by Hurricane
Katrina in the Gulf Coast.
Get Involved
Samaritan’s Purse relies on Relief Teams to carry out
clean-up efforts, and we provide the equipment, materials and leadership needed
to respond. We are always looking for volunteers to
join our Relief Teams or volunteer database. We are also in need of financial support in order to continue to respond
swiftly and equip the Disaster Relief Unit with necessary supplies and equipment.
