As a child in Liberia, Krubo Zaza wanted to go to school
so that she could learn to read and write.
Unfortunately, Krubo suffered a severe illness that didn’t allow her to attend school.
As she got older and her health improved, she began to have children and determined
that she was too busy to attend school. Despite her scholastic limitations, Krubo
knew that an education was important, so all of her children attended school.
This past March Krubo finally was able to make her dream of going to school a reality,
thanks to basic literacy classes offered through Samaritan’s Purse. Krubo took an
initial literacy assessment test, scoring only 40 per cent.
In the beginners class Krudo and her fellow students learned the alphabet, to write
their names, the order of the alphabet, small and capital letters, short sentences
and to spell words. They were also taught numeracy, learning how to add and subtract
one digit numbers. In addition to basic literacy, Krudo also took classes on the
Bible, studying topics like Relationship between Men and Women, Relationship with
God, and The Fall and Creation.
At the end of the course Krubo took another assessment test. She scored 80 per cent,
the second highest improvement in the class.
“This course has been an answer to my prayers,” Krubo says. “I’m so happy to be
able to finally go to school.”
