World Medical Mission

Our Work

Serving Overseas

Through World Medical Mission, Samaritan's Purse takes much of the difficulty out of going overseas. We enable people who want to give of themselves in obedience to God's leading to do so with a minimum of hindrances and red tape. The result is that ministries of hospitals and clinics are strengthened, and they are able to offer better health care and to lead more people to faith in Christ.

When volunteers serve through World Medical Mission, we coordinate the details. This includes:

  • Evaluating interests and abilities and matching you with a hospital, clinic, or project in a mutually acceptable time frame;
  • Providing orientation and spiritual resources in advance of, and throughout service;
  • Arranging international travel schedules and airline ticketing;
  • Assisting with necessary visas, permits, and other field requirements;
  • Coordinating field housing and transportation arrangements; and
  • Assisting volunteers in handling financial details related to overseas service.

Resident Assistance Program

World Medical Mission has created a Resident Assistance Fund to assist talented and dedicated medical residents from Canada and the United States in reaching their goal of serving in mission hospitals around the world. Those residents selected for this program will serve short-term in a mission hospital in a developing country. Residents in their last year of training, who feel called to the medical mission field and have a superior academic record, are encouraged to apply.

Post-Residency Program

Our fully funded two-year post-residency program, in association with Project CanMedSend, assists gifted and dedicated Christian physicians who have been called by the Lord to medical missions. Immediately following your residency, World Medical Mission facilitates a placement in a mission hospital within your specialty while providing placement, logistical, and financial support as you serve. The Post-Residency Program is designed to introduce physicians to the blessings and opportunities in medical missions.
