Our Work

How we serve our volunteers

By placing Christian medical personnel in service at mission hospitals and clinics around the world, and providing logistical support for our volunteers, World Medical Mission aims to open doors to the Good News through quality, compassionate medical care.

Who we send

World Medical Mission places Christian physicians and dentists, and also has limited opportunities for nurses and other medical and biomedical personnel.

In addition to placing those who are established in their practices, World Medical Mission has created the Resident Assistance Program to also send qualified residents overseas for short-term rotations. With advance approval, many residency programs allow academic credit for overseas experience. Service in a mission hospital enhances residents' range of experience medically and surgically. It also broadens their perspective spiritually. After serving overseas during their training, many residents have subsequently opted for extended missionary service. This is especially significant in an era when many mission agencies are experiencing a decline in the number of applicants. Residents typically need financial assistance if they are to travel and work overseas, and Samaritan's Purse provides partial grants for qualified individuals.

There are also opportunities for dedicated Christian physicians to serve overseas in our two-year Post-Residency Program after they have completed their residencies and/or fellowships.

How we serve our volunteers

Through World Medical Mission, Samaritan's Purse takes much of the difficulty out of going overseas. We enable people who want to give of themselves to do so with a minimum of hindrances and red tape.
