Our Work
World Medical Mission
As a medical ministry of Samaritan's Purse, we place volunteer Christian physicians, dentists, and other medical personnel in short-term service at mission hospitals and clinics in Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, Latin America, and the Middle East. We provide placement and logistical support for our volunteers, opening doors to the Good News in remote areas and bringing physical restoration and spiritual healing through quality, compassionate medical care.
Medical Care: A Global Concern
The state of medical care in developing countries is a global concern. Many nations are in dire need of qualified medical personnel. Sub-Saharan Africa faces the greatest challenges in terms of a medical personnel shortage. The region carries 24 per cent of the global burden of disease, and has only three per cent of the world’s health workers.1 In all cases, those in need of medical care suffer most. People often die of illnesses that can be easily prevented or treated. If those who are sick and suffering can reach a health care facility, they are often faced with overworked doctors, broken equipment, and a lack of medical supplies and resources.
Through World Medical Mission, Samaritan’s Purse is working to improve conditions by providing Christian hospitals and clinics with critically-needed resources — equipment, supplies, and Christian medical personnel—to treat patients as witnesses of God's love.
Serving Overseas
There are opportunities for medical personnel to serve with World Medical Missions overseas, including residency and post-residency programs.
