Relief Teams to Mexico
Samaritan’s Purse is looking for Canadian volunteers to join Relief Teams to assist impoverished Mexicans who were affected by severe flooding.
Between January and May of 2008, Samaritan’s Purse will send nine Relief Teams of Canadian volunteers who will focus on two flood-ravaged communities, Atzlan and Quintin Arauz, helping repair damaged homes and raise the standard of living for families. Each team will work closely with the local church and community, and also encourage local volunteers to join the effort.
The communities of Atzlan and Quintin Arauz are in marginalized rural areas that have received little or no assistance after heavy flooding in Oct. 2007. Families live in extremely rustic dwellings with poor sanitation. In each community Samaritan’s Purse will reach out to the neediest families.
Mexico's severe flooding - caused by heavy rains - affected over one million people. Infrastructure, businesses and homes were damaged, and crops destroyed. Samaritan’s Purse helped provide initial emergency relief to help victims of this disaster, and Samaritan’s Purse Relief Teams will follow-up that aid by helping with recovery efforts.
Volunteer
Relief Teams will be deployed to Mexico two weeks at a time. The cost per team member is $1,700, and each volunteer must cover his or her own costs. Relief Team members are encouraged to fundraise and recruit other volunteers to join the relief effort.
