Help us provide refuge to street children, assistance to farmers, and vocational skills to women in the African nation of Senegal.

Our Work

Bringing hope to Senegal

The Republic of Senegal is an impoverished nation of 14 million on the west coast of Africa. Samaritan’s Purse began working there in 2004 with Operation Christmas Child and since then, we’ve distributed more than 315,000 shoe box gifts.

This ministry not only provided many children with their first and only gifts, it also opened the door for us and our local church partners to do so much more to address Senegal’s many needs. And because of this, we’ve had many opportunities to introduce the living water of Jesus Christ to a population dominated by other faiths.

Our work addresses these areas:

Vocational training for girls:

Fishing is the main means of livelihood for most families in a large coastal town. But economic opportunities are rare for young women. Poverty levels are very high, school is not often an option and many girls find themselves vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.

One small evangelical church is seeking to make a difference. During the week, the building that serves as a worship center for the few believers in the area is open for a vocational training program funded by Samaritan’s Purse.

Every day, a small group of young women come to the church to hear Bible stories and learn sewing, cooking, literacy and social skills that will help them provide for their families. Please join us in helping more women rise above their circumstances and hear the ultimate message of hope that can transform their lives and impact their community.

Agricultural training:

Beer-Sheba is a cutting edge program that improves the lives of farmers and protects Senegal’s agricultural land from erosion.

Introducing drip irrigation, drought-resistant crops, reforestation and more natural farming methods is increasing the quality and quantity of crops. Samaritan’s Purse Canada is supporting the training of young farmers, many of whom have responded to the Gospel and are reaching their people with the truth of Christ’s love. This love is evident as farmers come to the Beer-Sheba center to find a place that:

  1. Exemplifies modern agricultural techniques and an entrepreneurial perspective
  2. Offers training for young Christian farmers from all denominations
  3. Teaches and lives out the Bible

Please join us, as we seek to train more Christian farmers so they can demonstrate to their struggling people that there is hope in a living God who cares for them.

We're also working with Christian partners to alleviate the significant problem of street kids in Senegal who are forced to beg for money.
