Assistance for Women: Along with our partners, Samaritan’s Purse is providing vulnerable women with the spiritual and physical means for a fresh start.

Our Work

Assistance for Women

In Ethiopia, wide-spread poverty, disease, and a lack of education push tens of thousands of girls and young women into prostitution.

Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with Women at Risk to reach out to such women with love, encouragement, and hope for a better future through rehabilitation and skills training programs. The programs are designed to provide women with the knowledge, tools, and support that they need to escape a life of prostitution.

Through these programs, women receive proper medical care, one-on-one counseling, and health and parenting lessons. The programs also provide viable skills training and prepare the women for financial independence. This incredible ministry is helping young women overcome painful pasts to realize their value and potential and begin building new lives.

Hope and Skills for the Future

Mestu, Ayale, and Azeb are three young women who have discovered hope through the ministry to Ethiopian women. Before they were admitted into the rehabilitation and skills training programs, the three were among the many vulnerable young women working as prostitutes on the streets of Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. Each had experienced the devastating loss of a parent, a life of poverty, and various forms of abuse - their lives were plagued with loneliness and despair. With nowhere else to go, they turned to Women at Risk.

The three young women met during the rehabilitation program and quickly became close friends, able to understand and support one another. As a part of their training, they learned to bake cakes and pastries. With the help of Women at Risk, the three young women were able to set up a small café that supplies the local supermarket with freshly baked goods. Equipped with newfound confidence, knowledge, and skills, the women are now able to provide for themselves without returning to prostitution.

For Mestu, Ayale, and Azeb, the skills training programs have been life-changing. They have learned valuable personal and professional skills that help keep them off Ethiopia’s streets, but they have also met Jesus Christ, who continues to fill their lives with hope and blessing as they grow in their walk with Him.
