BUILDING IN NEPAL: Unique medical ministry is bringing hope to the poorest of Nepal.

Our Work

Bringing Hope to Nepal

For impoverished families living in Nepal’s remote mountain regions, medical care is often out of reach. A referral to the bustling city of Kathmandu for a serious illness or condition means a daunting journey for someone who may never have seen a car before.

Our local church partner is dedicated to caring for the poor, needy, helpless, and disabled. Many of the members are affected by disabilities or are marginalized in some way, giving them a keen awareness of the importance of compassionate care. Their ministry serves as “Patient Navigators” for patients being referred to Kathmandu from remote areas of Nepal. Staff members ensure that appropriate medical care is received, while the church community welcomes these patients and supports them while they receive treatment. During the weeks and months the ministry provides for their emotional and physical needs—providing food and lodging, accompanying them to the hospital, and getting necessary medicines—patients and their families experience the love of God in a very practical way. Many return to their remote mountain villages transformed and excited to share about their new lives with their communities.

Our partner desperately needs improved and expanded facilities as the ministry grows. Even with the limited space in the present rented buildings, they have cared for more than 150 patients and families through the program over the last year. With new patients being referred on a regular basis from mission hospitals and other health providers, demand for their services has increased dramatically.

A new two-storey facility will double capacity—increasing the number of patients and their caregivers to as many as 300 each year—and will ensure long-term viability and security for the ministry. Fully wheelchair accessible, the planned 9,600 square-foot center will also serve as a focal point for church ministry and outreach, as well as weekly services.

A strategically located parcel of land for the proposed new center has been purchased. Samaritan's Purse will oversee the building project management to ensure the utmost quality of the new building. Please partner with us. Your gifts toward this building project can extend this unique and vital ministry to some of the most impoverished people in Nepal.
