Our Work

Community Development

“You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” (Luke 6:36, NLT)

The Good Samaritan in Luke 10 showed compassion to a man who had been beaten, robbed, and left half-dead along the road to Jericho. The Good Samaritan cleaned this man’s wounds, gave him shelter, and helped him get back on his feet.

Samaritan’s Purse seeks to be a modern-day Good Samaritan showing compassion to those in need, as Jesus commanded. Our community development initiatives help people get back on their feet, so they can lead healthier and more self-sufficient lives.

  • Approximately three quarters of the world’s poor live in rural areas with livelihoods most often linked to agriculture.
  • More than 1 billion of the world’s poorest people lack access to safe drinking water.
  • More than 2 million people in developing countries die every year from diseases associated with contaminated water and poor sanitation.
  • 800 million people go hungry each day.
  • Over 800 million adults in developing countries are illiterate.
  • 350 million children and adults are suffering from malnutrition.

As Samaritan’s Purse assists communities through water, agricultural, health, educational, and vocational projects, we do so with compassion, to show the love of Christ in practical ways.
