Our Work

HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is one of the most significant issues facing the world today. An estimated 33 million people are living with HIV, and nearly 2.5 million are newly infected every year. The impact of the disease goes far beyond the individuals who are infected – reaching families, communities, and entire nations.

  • More than 15 million children have lost one or both of their parents to AIDS
  • More than 80% of people living with HIV in low and middle-income countries do not know that they are infected
  • It is estimated that youth aged 15-24 account for 45% of new HIV infections worldwide *

Despite the alarming statistics surrounding the HIV/AIDS pandemic, there is hope. Jesus Christ served the suffering of this world with compassion and humility, offering them unconditional love and eternal hope. Partnering with others who seek to follow His example, Samaritan’s Purse is working to strengthen the international Christian response to HIV/AIDS.

Churches around the world are recognizing that they have a role to play in responding to the HIV/AIDS crisis. Pastors and congregations in countries including Cambodia, South Africa, and Kenya are partnering with Samaritan’s Purse to respond to the physical, spiritual, and social needs of their communities.

By identifying positive, compassionate, and culturally relevant ways to speak out about HIV/AIDS, local Christians are helping raise awareness, teach prevention, and reduce the stigma that surrounds the disease. Samaritan’s Purse is also working alongside ministries that are offering care to those infected with HIV as well as children who have been orphaned.

Through collaborative partnerships, Samaritan’s Purse is helping build the capacity of church and community leaders around the world as they identify opportunities to reach out to those in their communities. By showing Christ-like compassion, Samaritan’s Purse and our partners seek to restore hope and dignity to those overwhelmed by this crisis.
