Transforming Christmas
The need is still enormous, but generous Canadians continue to respond and make
our Turn on the Tap campaign a success.
The latest example comes from Windsor, Ontario, where parishioners at Heritage Park
Alliance Church donated $54,000 to help impoverished families in the developing
world get safe drinking, cooking, and bathing water.
“The impact (of our month-long church campaign) is far wider than I expected or
even prayed about,” said pastor Garth Leno. He set a goal of $25,000.
Among the stories of parishioners who gave up Christmas gifts for charitable giving
are the Belangers. Irene and Gary Belanger’s daughter wanted to buy her dad a Christmas
present, but instead, Gary told her he wanted a BioSand Water Filter. Irene jumped
in and helped her daughter raise the money— they needed just $100 to provide a lifetime
of safe water for up to 10 people—which they donated to Turn on the Tap in Gary’s
honor.
In another instance, one of the church’s senior high student groups raised more
than $700 for Turn on the Tap. We’re so grateful for churches like Heritage Park
Alliance, who faithfully support Turn on the Tap and partner with us to change the
lives of thousands of people. Thank you!
